Vietnamese Sweet and Sour Soup (Canh Chua)

Vietnamese Sweet and Sour Soup, also known as Canh Chua, is a delicious and refreshing soup that is a popular dish in Vietnam. It is made with a tamarind broth, which gives it a tart and sour flavor, and is filled with a variety of vegetables, such as tomatoes, okra, pineapple, and bean sprouts. Canh Chua can be made with fish, shrimp, or pork, and is typically served with a side of rice.

The ingredients for Canh Chua vary depending on the region and the cook’s preference, but some of the most common ingredients include:

  • Tamarind pulp
  • Fish (catfish, tilapia, or shrimp)
  • Tomatoes
  • Okra
  • Pineapple
  • Bean sprouts
  • Elephant ear stalks
  • Rice paddy herb
  • Garlic

To make Canh Chua, you will first need to make the tamarind broth. This is done by soaking tamarind pulp in hot water for about 30 minutes, then straining the liquid. You can also use tamarind concentrate or powder, but the flavor will not be as authentic.

Once you have the tamarind broth, you can add the other ingredients. The vegetables should be cut into bite-sized pieces, and the fish or shrimp should be cleaned and cooked. The soup is then brought to a boil and simmered for about 10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.

Canh Chua is a delicious and refreshing soup that is perfect for a hot day. It is also a good source of protein and vitamins. If you are looking for a new and exciting soup to try, Vietnamese Sweet and Sour Soup is the top of must-try dishes list!
