eVisa Photo Requirements for Vietnam

Travelers need to provide a photograph when applying for a Vietnam visa. The photo is uploaded digitally when making the online eVisa application.

To meet the eVisa requirements, the photo must match Vietnam visa photo specifications. This page explains all the rules to help travelers select an appropriate image for their visa application.

Special specifications apply to children’s Vietnam eVisa photographs, more information can be found below.

Do I Need a Photo for Vietnam Online e-Visa?

Yes, all Vietnam visa applicants need a photograph. Travelers have to provide a photo to apply for a Vietnam visa online or at the embassy.

Conveniently, Vietnam eVisa applicants upload the photo digitally. The photo is verified to ensure it meets the requirements and avoid Vietnam eVisa rejection.

Vietnam eVisa Passport Photo Specifications

For the Vietnam eVisa application to be accepted, the passport photo must meet specifications regarding:

·                     Format and weight

·                     Quality and clarity

·                     Facial expression

·                     Glasses, scarves, and other accessories

Information about each of these requirements is provided below.

What size photograph do I need for a Vietnam visa?

A standard passport-size photo is required. This means that the selected image should measure 4cm x 6cm (2 inches by 2 inches).

The weight of the file should not exceed 1MB.

Format and quality of the Vietnam e-visa photo

Photos should be uploaded in portrait format. The accepted file types are JPG and GIF. PDF and PNG files cannot be used.

Color photos are recommended, and images with filters applied will not be accepted. It should not be blurry and must show the applicant’s face clearly.

Other Vietnam eVisa passport photo requirements

These are some other considerations to make when taking a photo for the Vietnam eVisa application.

·                     Background: choose a plain and bright background.

·                     Lighting: avoid glare (like the one caused by a flash) that can make the photo unclear. Lighting should be kept even to prevent shadows.

·                     Position: face the camera and relax your shoulders.

·                     Facial expression: don’t smile and try to keep a neutral expression and your mouth closed.

·                     Recent: the photo must have been taken in the last 6 months

Can I wear glasses in my Vietnam visa photo?

There are some rules about wearing glasses and other accessories in the Vietnam visa photograph.

·                     Glasses: eyes should be visible and kept open, looking directly at the camera. Glasses are only allowed if they leave your eyes visible. Tinted lenses are not permitted.

·                     Clothing: white clothing should be avoided as it’s likely to blend with the background.

·                     Scarves and other head accessories: only scarves and head accessories worn for religious or medical reasons are allowed.

·                     Hair: applicants with long haircuts can keep their hair down as long as it doesn’t cover the face.

·                     Beard: applicants who normally wear a beard should keep it for the Vietnamese visa photo.

Do children need their own photo for a Vietnam visa?

Children traveling to Vietnam require a separately submitted visa application.

photo must be supplied as part of a child’s Vietnam eVisa application. There are special rules for Vietnam visa photos for babies and children.

Vietnam e-visa photograph requirements for children

Parents or guardians completing the Vietnam eVisa application on behalf of their child should be aware of the photo specifications for minors.

·                     Only the child can be in the picture. Parents and siblings should not appear in the photo used to apply for a Vietnam visa for minors.

·                     Toys, bottles, pacifiers, and other objects should not be included in the picture.

·                     If possible, the minor should stand or sit up with their eyes open. In the case of newborn babies or toddlers, parents can lay the child on a white sheet to provide a solid background.

Rules on lighting, photo size, attire, etc. that apply to adults should also be followed for children.

How to Upload the Vietnam eVisa Photo

Travelers who apply for a Vietnam visa online can easily upload their digital photographs. They should take the photo using a smartphone or digital camera and upload it to the application when prompted.

The Vietnam eVisa process is 100% online. Applicants do not need to provide a paper copy of their photo.

Travelers who need an embassy visa for Vietnam need to present 2 physical passport photos.

Photo Requirements for the Vietnam Visa on Arrival

Travelers are advised to get a Vietnam eVisa rather than a Vietnam visa on arrival.

By applying online, any issues with the passport photo, or other parts of the application, can be resolved before reaching the border.

Passengers who do opt for the visa on arrival must remember to take 2 photos with them when traveling. Vietnamese border control officers attach them to the entry and exit form.

The same photo requirements apply for both the Vietnam eVisa and visa on arrival. These include size, lighting, head and face position, attire, accessories, etc. The visa photos should be printed on glossy photo paper.
