1. What is Vietnam dependent visa?
Vietnam dependent visa is also known as Vietnam family visa. It is symbolized as TT visa for Vietnam. It is a type of visa which allows spouses and children of certain foreigners or spouses and children and parents of Vietnamese citizens to travel to Vietnam for long-term living together.
2. Who are eligible for Vietnam TT visa?
According to the Law No. 51/2019/QH14 dated November 25, 2019 of the National Assembly on amendments to a number of articles of Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, Vietnam dependent visa TT is granted to:
- parents, spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens;
- spouses or children under 18 years of age of foreigners issued with LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1 or LD2 visas, of which:
- LV1 visa – Issued to people who come to work with units affiliated to Vietnam’s Communist Party; the National Assembly, the government, Central Committee of Vietnamese Fatherland Front, the People’s Supreme Court, the People’s Supreme Procuracy, State Audit Agency, Ministries, ministerial agencies, Governmental agencies, the People’s Councils, the People’s Committees of provinces.
- LV2 visa – Issued to people who come to work with socio-political organizations, social organizations, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- LS visa – issued to foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam
- DT1 visa – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam and contributing capital of VND 100 billion or more or investing in business lines benefitting from investment incentives, in administrative divisions benefitting from investment incentives decided by the Government.
- DT2 visa – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam and contributing capital of VND 50 billion to less than VND 100 billion or investing in business lines benefitting from investment incentives treatment decided by the Government.
- DT3 visa – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam and contributing capital of VND 3 billion to less than VND 50 billion.
- NN1 visa – Issued to Managers of representative offices or projects of international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.
- NN2 visa – Issued to heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of other foreign economic, cultural, professional organizations in Vietnam.
- DH visa – Issued to people who come to study or serve internship.
- PV1 visa – Issued to journalists who have permanent residences in Vietnam.
- LD1 visa – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam and certified of eligibility for work permit exemption, unless otherwise specified by international agreements to which Vietnam is a signatory.

3. Who can sponsor foreign family members to get dependent visa for Vietnam?
Like many other types of Vietnam visa, all foreigners are required to have a sponsor in Vietnam to get a dependent visa. The sponsor must have family relationship with the applicant, it can be a marriage relationship or a child-parent relationship.
Basically, people who are able to sponsor their family relatives for a dependent visa in Vietnam comprise of:
- Vietnamese citizens;
- Foreigners who have been issued with Vietnam visa symbolized as mentioned above or corresponding Vietnam temporary residence card and have approval for sponsor of the organization/company for which they are working.
4. Where to get a family visa for Vietnam?
You can get a family visa, or dependent visa for Vietnam at the Vietnam embassy/Consulate general or Vietnam arrival airport if you are outside Vietnam, or convert your current visa to TT visa at the Vietnam Immigration Department in Vietnam if you are inside the country.
